Visa

With the Acceptance Letter in hand, you can take the second step: apply for the Student Visa (Temporary Visa IV), which is mandatory for all foreigners who wish to study at a Brazilian university.

It is important that you enter Brazil with the correct visa, since Brazilian law does not allow changes in visas within the country.

Consult the Consulate General of Brazil in your country of residence and request the complete list of required documents to obtain the Student Visa.

Atenção: take advantage of your trip to the consulate to register in the CPF - Cadastro de Pessoa Física - a required document for your registration at the university, opening a bank account, among others. To do so, simply fill out the form and submit it with your passport.

TEMPORARY VISA IV – STUDENT VISA

The Temporary Visa IV can be granted to any foreign student who intends to come to Brazil on a temporary basis, with no intention of immigration or exercise of remunerated activity. This Visa authorizes the foreigner to attend a certain course in a defined educational institution. It may be valid for up to 1 (one) year (according to the Acceptance Letter), and it can be extended for the same period, for successive times, while the course lasts. The request for extension must be made to the Federal Police Department, within 30 (thirty) days before the end of the stay

Once the Visa is granted, the foreign student has 90 days to enter Brazil and, then, 30 days to register with the Federal Police Department of the city where he / she lives. The Visa holders are prohibited from exercising paid activity, being under penalty of fine, notification or deportation.

The Visa application procedure must be done at the Brazilian Consulate or Embassy in the country of origin.

We encourage students to contact the Consulate for information on the procedures and documents to be presented. Consulates may request complementary documents that are not indicated in the specific Guidelines for National Registration of Foreigners. To access the Consulate of Brazil whose jurisdiction meets your area of residence, please consult Portal Consular of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
