The Brazilian currency is REAL. As exchange rates are higher in airports, the ideal is to bring some cash for the first expenses in the country.

Please note:  even if you have been awarded a scholarship, sufficient resources must be available to support yourself for at least 2 months in Brazil (approximately R $ 2,000), since the first deposit is not immediate.
